Emergency Department

Doctors Hospital

• New ED opened June 2010
• The ED has 50 beds, all monitored and all with computers, as well as 7 triage rooms and 2 trauma bays
• Spacious areas with a café in the lobby
• Second floor boasts a state-of-the-art training facility with the Osteopathic Heritage Medical Education Center
• Broad patient pathology with an admission rate of about 11%
• Award winning residency program with 36 residents who have often had the highest in-service exam scores nationally; faculty have won ACOEP and ACEP awards for teaching and leadership
• Teaching includes bedside and didactic activities and there are residents in the department 24 hours per day; research/publication options are available
• Newly acquired Electronic Medical Record system, with computerized discharge, Micromedix toxicology, and in-department PCs located throughout the ED. Electronic physician-order system.
• Active in EMS and training; serve as advisors for six squads
• New, state of the art, computerized triage system and tracking system with Electronic Medical Records.
• Listed as a Certified Chest Pain Center, and is the first hospital in the nation to achieve Cycle III certification for Chest Pain Centers.
• Process improvement actions are anticipated to add an additional 5,000 patients to the volume over the next few years.

Urgent Care

• Victorian Village Health Center Urgent Care is centrally located near downtown Columbus
• Treating approximately 9,000 patients per year
• Urgent Care has eight rooms staffed by a physician, RN and a Medical Assistant

Emergency Department Schedule

• Doctors Hospital has mostly 8 hour shifts with one 9-hour shift
• Fast Track is open from 10 am - 12 midnight with 7 hour shifts 
• Triple attending coverage plus 2-3 emergency medicine residents
• Victorian Village Urgent Care is open from 9 am - 7 pm on weekdays and 9 am - 5 pm on weekends with 10 and 8-hour shifts, respectively
