Jamie Falkowitz, D.O. - Recipient of Core Values Director's Award at Gaston Memorial

All too often, in the fishbowl of the ED, phsyicians are singled out for what goes wrong.  Emergency physicians are not frequently recognized for their accomplishments and contributions to their practice.  The team at Gaston Memorial, led by Dr. Jayne Kendall, has set out to change this trend.

An annual award, the Core Values Director's Award, has been started to recognize a team member who most embodies the EMP values of Servant's Heart, Owner's Mind, Teamwork, and Integrity.  We are excited to announce the inaugural award winner, Dr. Jamie Falkowitz.

Jamie Falkowitz, DO, joined EMP of Gaston in 2008 after completing his residency at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System/North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY.  He quickly integrated himself into the department, seeing patients efficiently and with a pleasant bedside manner.  He then transitioned into the EMS Medical Director position in 2009 and has also recently taken on the role of a full-time night physician.

He is an integral member of the Gaston team, always willing to come in early, stay late, pick up shifts when needed, or maneuver his schedule to cover an unexpected spot for a sick partner.  Jamie spends countless hours educating the pre-hospital providers and reworking EMS protocols to ensure that our patients are receiving quality care before they ever roll through the doors of the ED.  Above all, he is always willing to help another physician or staff member in need of assistance in the department and does the right thing for his patients at all times.  He is well liked by physicians, nurses, and support staff alike.  He consistently scores in the 99th percentile of Press Ganey rankings and generates 9-10 RVUs/hour.

Outside the hospital, Jamie is happily married to wife, Stephanie.  They have 2 young boys, Evan and Joshua, who keep them extremely busy.

Congratulations to Jamie for his hard work and dedication to EMP and Gaston Memorial Hospital!
