During Emergency Medicine Physicians’ (EMP) 8th Annual Firefighters Retreat held in Canton, OH, Richard Boggs, MD, FAAEM was named the 2011 Firefighter of the Year. Dr. Boggs currently serves as an ED attending physician at Mercy Hospital Anderson (EMP of Cincinnati).
The EMP Firefighter Program is a unique ED staffing solution developed by Emergency Medicine Physicians. Firefighters are Emergency Medicine residency trained, board certified, highly experienced physicians who are dispatched to work in various Emergency Departments throughout the country at new sites or sites undergoing a transition in staffing.
Rich “Leo” Boggs received his undergrad degree in Biology at Alderson – Broaddus College in Philippi, W. VA. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine at Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, W. VA, and completed his residence at The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA. In addition, Dr. Boggs is a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine
Also during the EMP Firefighter retreat, several other physicians were recognized for their outstanding contributions to EMP’s Firefighting Team. Those receiving recognition included Scott Hines, MD; Richard Stuntz, MD, FACEP; David Wright, MD, FACEP; and Rina Stein, DO, FACEP.
According to EMP’s Director of Firefighters Merci Madar, MD, FACEP, this year was special because it marked the 1st Nationwide Firefighter Retreat. It gave members from around the country a chance to connect with each other and share ideas.
