EMP Physicians Provide Cutting-Edge Information at ACEP

Emergency Medicine Physicians (EMP) will be represented among those presenting state-of-the-art information during this year’s ACEP Scientific Assembly, scheduled for Oct. 15 – 18 in San Francisco.

EMP physician US Representative Joe Heck, DO, FACEP (R-NV) will be on a featured panel discussing The Affordable Care Act:  Its Promise for Emergency Medicine during ACEP’s opening session on Saturday, October 15 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Dr. Heck brings his experience as a federal candidate and the first emergency physician to be elected to the House of Representatives to the discussion.

In addition, EMP physicians Michael Frank, MD, JD, FACEP, FCLM and General Counsel for EMP, and Kevin Klauer, DO, EJD, FACEP, Chief Medical Officer for EMP, will be involved in several course offerings, including:

NPs/PAs: Safe Supervision in the ED — Presented by Dr. Klauer

Sunday, October 16 from 1:30 to 2:20 p.m. (SU-129)

Dr. Klauer explores the concept of mid-level providers as well as offering strategies for implementing a mid-level program in the ED.

How Do I complete Part 4 (Assessment of Practice Performance) of My ABEM EMCC Requirement? The Nuts and Bolts Answers — Presented by Dr. Klauer

Monday, Oct. 17 from 1:30 to 2:20 p.m. (MO-216)

Dr. Klauer will outline the Part 4 requirements and walk attendees through the online forms and paperwork.

So You Want a New Job?: Time to Update Your CV – Presented by Dr. Klauer with Susan Promes, MD, FACEP and Barbara Katz

Monday, Oct. 17 from 1:30 to 2:20 p.m. (MO-216)

This panel of presenters that will first focus on an overview of current trends in the preparation of health care CV. Then, attendees will split into smaller groups and have a focused discussion.

Real Cases: Bad Outcomes – Presented by Dr. Frank and Fredrick Abrahamian, DO, FACEP

Tuesday, October 18 from 8 to 8:50 a.m. (TU-266)

Using a case-based approach with a morbidity and mortality conference format, the speakers will walk attendees through real cases that had bad outcomes, with special emphasis on medical-legal side of cases.

Tuesday, October 18, 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. (TU-297)

The speakers will provide strategies to diffuse parental anxiety and increase shared decision-making among all parties so that a “best interest” for the child perspective is maintained.
