If you have a question that isn’t answered below, please don’t hesitate to contact us or call 800-828-0898.
- Why is EMP better than other Emergency Department contract service providers?
- EMP can fully staff your emergency department with residency trained, board certified physicians in emergency medicine. Our commitment to our physicians enables us to more effectively hire only top quality, emergency trained physicians than larger contract service providers, or even hospitals. EMP is a locally managed company, owned by physicians, so you’ll interact with the owners of EMP, not mid-level managers of national staffing organizations.
- How do you screen and select emergency medicine physicians?
- We recruit residency trained and board certified emergency physicians. The physicians are selected based on personal experience and affiliation with quality emergency medicine residency programs. We evaluate physicians based on quality of training, interpersonal skills, dependability, efficiency and references and recommendations from their residency director.
- How many of your emergency medicine physicians would comprise the normal rotation during a monthly schedule?
- Full-time staff are determined based on patient volume in the emergency department using staffing guidelines developed by EMP.
- What schedule do your emergency medicine physicians normally work? What is the maximum hours you schedule a physician during one continuous shift?
- Physicians for EMP work approximately 130-140 hours per month. We prefer to staff emergency departments with 8 hour shifts whenever possible to provide physician overlap and keep physicians from becoming fatigued at the end of their shifts.
- How is the EMP Medical Director scheduled into staffing to ensure an awareness of patient flow and staff concerns?
- The EMP Medical Director works 40-120 clinical hours a month, depending on department volume. We feel this allows the Medical Director ample time for administrative duties, while keeping a close supervision of the clinical practice in the emergency department. Directors are paid by EMP to perform administrative duties.
- How do you respond to patient complaints and criticism regarding emergency room physician services?
- The Medical Director reviews every complaint and discusses them at monthly department meetings. Records are kept for each physician and the physician will be notified of any complaint. As necessary, additional education will be used to improve the physician’s performance. EMP will not tolerate any physician with continued poor physician-patient performance.
- Do you require any of your Emergency Department staff physicians or Medical Director to live in the community served?
- All physicians will be local. Every attempt will be made to hire board-certified/board eligible emergency medicine physicians who live, or plan to live, in a 30-mile radius of the emergency department.
- How do you evaluate the clinical performance of your emergency department physicians?
- A Physician Manager reviews each chart for each contract EMP operates. This allows daily evaluations of physicians, documentation, clinical effectiveness and treatment protocols. Quality assurance forms are utilized during this process.
- What control would the hospital have over which emergency medicine physicians would be assigned to this account?
- EMP recruits and hires emergency medicine physicians. If any employed physician is not satisfactory to the hospital staff or administration, action will be taken. EMP will evaluate and aggressively work to improve physician performance. However, if this is not successful, the physician will be removed.
- Will you agree to participate as a provider in any insurance, PPO, or manage care program in which the hospital elects to participate?
- EMP will negotiate with all programs in which the hospital participates.
- How will EMP work with the hospital team?
- Initially, EMP will provide daily observation and reports for evaluation of the emergency department. In a cooperative effort, we will work with you to keep you informed of all activities and action, as well as provide timely management reports.
- Is the transition to using EMP complicated?
- No. EMP handles all the details with as much, or as little, hospital staff involvement as you desire.
- How do we get started?
- Call EMP today at (800) 828-0898 to set up a meeting to discuss your situation.
