James J. Augustine MD, FACEP

Director of Emergency Medicine, Director of Clinical Operations

Who is your favorite recording artist or group?

Jimmy Buffett.  Linda and I are both Parrotheads

What do you like most about working for EMP?

Team approach to better patient care.  Servant's heart and owner's mind is a great description of how EM should be practiced.

Describe one of the most rewarding experiences you've had in the ED.

Getting kissed by a 90 year old lady.  She presented with a dislocated shoulder, days before Christmas.  Had so much work to do to prepare for her family, and knew that getting pain medication and sedation would knock her out for days.  I can do great shoulder reductions, and have never had to sedate anyone who actually wanted their shoulder reduced.  Did that nice lady so gently, I needed no pain medication or sedation.  She was so grateful she cried, and kissed me!

Describe a perfect meal.

Grilling out with good friends, with a summer buffet of snacks, veggies and salads.

What person has been the biggest influence in your life and why?

My father and my wife.  Both taught me values of serving others, communicating effectively, being humble, and smelling the roses along the way.
