Kevin Klauer, DO, FACEP, was promoted to the position of Chief Medical Officer for Emergency Medicine Physicians, effective January 1, 2010.
Dr. Klauer is a nationally recognized educator and speaker. He is past recipient of the ACEP National Faculty Teaching Award as well as the EMRA Robert J. Dougherty Teaching Fellowship Award. Dr. Klauer is Chairman of the National ACEP Finance Committee and serves as Editor-in-Chief for Emergency Physicians Monthly publication.
Dr. Klauer first trained as a paramedic, then went on to graduate from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa, with a Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Louisiana State University Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Throughout his medical education and training, Dr. Klauer has been the recipient of multiple honors, scholarships and outstanding service awards in the hospitals and communities in which he worked. He continues to serve on the National ACEP ED Directors Academy Task Force.
Dr. Klauer started with EMP in 1999. He serves on the Board of Directors for EMP Trust and also the Board of Directors for Physicians Specialty Limited Risk Retention Group (PSLRRG), EMP's captive medical-malpractice insurance company. He has held the position of Director of Quality and Clinical Education for Emergency Medicine Physicians since 2003. Dr. Klauer also serves as the Director for The Center for Emergency Medicine Education (CEME) where he oversees the largest national EM board review course in the United States. He lectures extensively on Risk Management and Emergency Medicine throughout the country.
