• Provena St. Mary’s is a 189 bed acute care facility with a Level II Emergency/Trauma Center
• Provider of many services such as Regional Cancer Center, Rehabilitation Services, Family Birthing Center, Pediatric Unit, Mental Health Services, Sleep Disorder Center, Renal Dialysis Center, Wound Care, Infusion Center, Occupational Health and a Total Wellness Center.
• In one of the most extensive and dynamic reformations in its history, Provena St. Mary’s Hospital launched a $2 million first floor renovation project in 2007 that enhances the patient experience of comfort and care
• Provena St. Mary’s has received numerous awards relating to patient satisfaction, performance improvement, health system quality and excellent patient outcomes in several areas.

Emergency Department

• Physician led department enjoys excellent relationships with Administration, Medical Staff and Nursing
• ED visits are comprised of a broad community type pathology and moderate medical acuity
• Approximately 20% of emergency patients are admitted
• Highly efficient layout with 22 treatment beds
• Designated Level II Trauma Center and is approved for care of children and infants (Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics, EDAP)
• Medical Control for EMS
• Designated Adult and Pediatric Trauma Rooms with overhead x-ray
• “Quiet Room” for Patients with emotional conditions
• “Family Room” for privacy and confidential discussions
• 24-hour Poison Control Center for Kankakee County
• Outstanding nursing staff - most are trauma specialists (ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, ECRN)
• Great Social Services support and advocacy across the spectrum
• Scribes in the dept function as personal assistants to the physicians

Emergency Department Schedule

• 32 hours of physician coverage, 10 hrs of MLP coverage. Scribes are used 12 hrs per day
• 9 and 11 hour shifts
