  • Saint Francis Hospital is a regional tertiary care center serving northeast Oklahoma, southwest Missouri, northwest Arkansas and southeast Kansas. Approximately 800 physicians serve the patients of Saint Francis Hospital through a wide range of advanced medical specialties.
  • Modern facility has had ongoing renovation and expansion. There are currently 840 acute-care beds and 52 bassinets.
  • Tulsa Life Flight is based at St. Francis, and was the first emergency helicopter ambulance service established in Oklahoma in 1979. Tulsa Life Flight is now a partnership between Saint Francis Hospital and St. John Medical Center and is one of the busiest air ambulance services in the nation with approximately 130 medical missions and 40 ground mobile intensive care unit transports per month. There are two new state-of-the-art helicopters.

  • ED visits include approximately 25% pediatric cases
  • 59-bed ED is made up of 28 general monitored,  8 pediatric, 2 resuscitation/trauma bays, 4 critical care, 4 orthopedic, 1 ENT/OPTH and 12 fast-track beds
  • Separate pediatric area is staffed by pediatric emergency physicians
  • Acuity is high, with approximately 30% of emergency patients admitted
  • New, allopathic Emergency Medicine residency training program began with the first class of 6 residents in July 2008 and provides clinical teaching opportunity for EM staff physicians
  • Ultrasound in emergency department (three Sonosite Titans)
  • Separate Fast-Track with 12 beds
  • Two radiology suites in the ED
  • Emergency physicians do not write admitting orders
  • 24-hour Hospitalist service
  • Dictated charting and computerized discharge instructions

Emergency Department Schedule

 

  • Current schedule includes 90 hours of physician coverage per day, plus 46 hours of PA coverage
  • 8 to 12 hour shifts
