• Stamford Hospital is a 305-bed community teaching hospital serving more than 200,000 people in Fairfield County, Connecticut.
• Founded in 1896, the hospital moved to its present site in 1913 and has evolved into the Stamford Health System, an integrated healthcare delivery system offering the community members the best possible care in various settings for all stages of their lives
• Facility maintains modern presentation and is undergoing periodic renovation
• Active EMS program
• Level II Trauma Center designation with dedicated surgical trauma response
• The hospital has freestanding residencies in Medicine, OB, Surgery, and Family Practice
• Associate Clinical Faculty positions are available for Emergency Physicians through the Department of Internal Medicine at Columbia University
• Major burns and complex pediatrics are transferred via established referral network
• Full service back up includes neurosurgery, psychiatry, and pediatrics; immediate cardiology response is mandated for emergency cardiac consults. New Interventional Cardiac Lab is open

Emergency Department

• ED visits are comprised of a broad community type pathology including pediatrics, medical, surgical, and geriatrics that include minor trauma and high medical acuity
• Approximately 19% of emergency patients are admitted which make up 50% of total hospital admissions
• Efficient rectangular layout with central nursing station has 21 treatment rooms and 4-bed fast track area
• High quality nursing staff
• Established AIDS Clinic with nurse practitioners who manage most AIDS cases
• Full department status
• ED physicians do not write admitting orders or respond to floor codes
• Radiology room located in ED with dedicated tech, 24 hours per day; ultrasound machine available in ED
• Active Hospitalists facilitate many admissions

Immediate Care Center

• The Immediate Care Center is located across town in The Tully Health Center
• ICC has designated staff is open 12 hours per day on weekdays and 10 hours on the weekends;
• 18,000 patients are treated annually

Emergency Department Schedule

• 8 hour shifts with triple physician coverage from 11am-11pm
• 12 hour shifts in fast track
• Fast track and UC shifts are augmented with PA coverage
• Physician In Triage System
