Dr. Vernell Johnson is the Director at St. James Hospital Chicago Heights in Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Johnson completed his undergraduate training at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Genetics and Biochemistry. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at the University of Illinois-Chicago in Chicago, Illinois where he served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Johnson has previously been the Emergency Department Director at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma and at Metroplex Health Systems in Killeen, Texas.

Dr. Johnson is board certified in Emergency Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
