Approximately 16% of emergency patients are admitted which make up 60% of total hospital admissions. Efficient 23-bed ED includes a dedicated 5 bed fast track area and 3 behavioral health beds. 8 and 10 hour emergency department shifts and 12 hours of fast track provide for 41 hours of physician coverage per day; plans include a change to all 8 hour shifts in the main ED.
